Workshop: A Space Between the Stars

  • Riverviews Artspace 52 9th Street Lynchburg, VA, 24504 United States (map)
Participants will create small, personalized fabric banners—on a bandana featuring a map of the James River—using mixed media and embroidery techniques. Each bandana will focus on a memory, an aspect of the participant’s personal journey and identity, or a message they wish to send into the "space between here and the stars."

Completed banners will be stitched together to be displayed collectively in Riverviews Artspace’s main gallery during Duwenavue Santé Johnson’s solo exhibition How Will Our Ancestors Find Us? (June 26-August 16, 2026).

As a community, we are creating a growing tapestry of shared memories and cosmic connections. This project reminds us that all voices contribute to the "bigger picture."
